The aircraft carrier "Ryūhō (龍鳳)" was based on the "Taigei (大鯨)," which was built as a submarine tender.
Built under the 1933 plan, the Taigei (大鯨), like the Shōhō-class (祥鳳級) aircraft carriers, was part of a shipbuilding plan that envisioned its conversion into an aircraft carrier to supplement existing aircraft carrier forces in times of emergency.
Although it was largely completed in 1938, problems with the performance of its diesel engines and hull strength prevented it from becoming fully operational, and improvement work continued.
Shortly after the outbreak of war, the "Taigei (大鯨)" began conversion into an aircraft carrier.
This involved major modifications, such as replacing the malfunctioning diesel engines with turbine engines, and the conversion process was prolonged.
In November 1942, it was renamed "Ryūhō (龍鳳)" and converted into an aircraft carrier.
By this time, having suffered defeats in the Battle of Midway (中途島海戰) and struggles in the Battle of Guadalcanal (瓜達康納爾島戰役), its participation in full-scale air combat would have to wait until Operation A-Go あ号作戦 (Battle of the Philippine Sea 菲律賓海海戰) in June 1944.
After that battle, its flight deck was extended to accommodate new carrier-based aircraft, but it remained in the inland sea each time. Finally, it was moored off the coast of Etajima (江田島), ending its mission.
The Special Series is a 1/700 scale, waterline model recreating the ship above the waterline.
With detailed parts division and delicate sculpting, this ship model boasts excellent detail reproduction.
□ This product is modeled after the final configuration in July 1944, with an extended flight deck and a total of six 28-barreled rocket launchers mounted on both sides.

□ The "12cm 28-barreled Rocket Launcher" and its mount, included only in the 1945 (Showa 20) specification, are included as dedicated parts.
□ The molded parts for the main camouflage areas have been changed to light green to ensure proper color development of the hull's No. 22 paint scheme.
□ Five aircraft types that were planned to be deployed are included in clear molded form: the Zero Fighter Type 52 零式艦上戦闘機 五二型, the Suisei Dive Bomber Type 11 彗星艦上轟炸機 一一型, the Tenzan 天山艦上攻擊機 and Ryūsei Torpedo Bombers 流星艦上攻擊機, and the Saiun Reconnaissance Aircraft 彩雲艦上偵察機.
