[A legendary FR rally car that won three championships, a true masterpiece in rally history]

The Fiat 131 Abarth Rally is a masterpiece of a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive (FR) rally car that debuted in the World Rally Championship in 1976 and went on to win the championship three times, in 1977, 1978, and 1980.

Based on Fiat's popular family sedan of the time, the 131 Mirafiori, it underwent extensive modifications, down to the smallest details, to be a true rally machine.

The modifications were carried out by the renowned Italian tuning firm, Abarth. Its 1995cc inline 4-cylinder DOHC 4-valve engine produced a maximum output of 215 horsepower.

The suspension was modified to a fully independent McPherson strut setup, and powerful ventilated disc brakes were fitted to both the front and rear axles.

Furthermore, the body, featuring front and rear spoilers and overfenders, was made lighter by replacing many parts with FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic).

The factory-team cars of 1976 and 1977 were painted in dark blue and yellow, the colors of Fiat's official oil brand, OLIO FIAT, and competed in the championship seasons.
