[A Small, Versatile Armored Vehicle that Supported the French Army]
The UE Tractor was a small armored vehicle used by the French Army during World War II for a wide range of tasks, including supplying the front lines with materials and towing light artillery or transporting mortars.
Its design was robust, featuring a flat-plate, bolt-riveted hull and a suspension system with girder beams supporting the road wheels.
It had a cast-metal, domed hatch for the two-man crew.
The rear cargo platform could be tilted from inside the vehicle, allowing it to carry approximately one ton of supplies, including when towing a trailer.
Approximately 4,900 UE Tractors, including the improved UE2 model, were produced from 1931, before the outbreak of war, until 1940, during the war against Germany.
They were deployed primarily with infantry units and were used by both the French Army and the occupying German forces on all fronts until the end of the war.
