[About the Nakajima Gekko Type 11 Late Production Night Fighter]

The Imperial Japanese Navy's Gekko Type 11 was designed as a long-range fighter and later achieved great success as a night fighter.

Equipped with the same two Sakae engines as the Zero fighter, thick, wide wings, and 20 mm machine guns protruding diagonally forward from the top and bottom of the fuselage, known as oblique guns, it shot down numerous American B-17 and B-24 bombers across the Pacific, and also fought bravely against B-29 heavy bombers in the defense of the Japanese mainland.

[Model Specifications - About the Oblique Guns]

Two Type 99 20 mm machine guns were mounted on the top and bottom of the Gekko's fuselage at a 30-degree angle, known as oblique guns.

Each gun carried 100 rounds, making them effective for intercepting bombers.

Some aircraft had the upper oblique guns upgraded to three, while others had the lower oblique gun removed.

These oblique guns were also fitted to other Japanese aircraft, and became an essential weapon for nighttime interception missions.
