Description

[A Unique Design in the Pursuit of Air Combat Performance]

The MC200 Saetta was a fighter aircraft developed by Macchi in response to the Italian Air Force's 1936 aircraft expansion plan.

Powered by an 870 horsepower, air-cooled Fiat A74RC38 radial engine, it achieved a top speed of 503 km/h.

The original enclosed windshield was replaced with a semi-open design for improved visibility in the mass-produced model, and the high cockpit position was a distinctive feature.

It first entered service in 1939 and first saw combat in June 1940 against France.

Despite being lightly armed with only two 12.7 mm machine guns, its excellent maneuverability made it the Italian Air Force's main fighter, serving in a wide range of battlefields from the Russian front to the Mediterranean.

It later evolved into high-performance aircraft such as the MC202 and MC205.
