[About the Pkw.K2s Schwimmwagen Model 166]
Dr. Porsche recognized the potential of the small military vehicle, the Kubelwagen Model 82, as an amphibious vehicle from the very beginning of its development.
In November 1940, he built the Schwimmwagen Model 128, a closed-hull prototype.
Based on the results of various tests, he completed the Schwimmwagen Model 166, a high-performance, four-seater small amphibious vehicle with a shortened wheelbase of 2,000 mm, by the summer of 1941.
Equipped with a 25 horsepower, air-cooled, four-cylinder, 1,130 cc engine in the rear of the vehicle, it was capable of two-wheel drive with four forward gears and one reverse gear, or four-wheel drive with an ultra-low gear.
It had a top speed of 80 km/h.

The Schwimmwagen's three-bladed propeller was manually lowered and connected to the crankshaft to rotate it, allowing it to travel at a speed of 10 km/h.
Over 14,000 Schwimmwagen Ausf. 166s were produced between 1942 and 1944.
Primarily used for reconnaissance and communication on all fronts by the Waffen-SS, Fallschirmjäger, and engineering units, it earned the trust of soldiers for its excellent amphibious capabilities and four-wheel drive.
