Description
[Leave aircraft refueling to us!]
During World War II, when air superiority was of utmost importance, the U.S. military's 2.5-ton fuel truck played a key role in replenishing aircraft and other equipment with fuel and lubricants.
A derivative of the widely used 2.5-ton truck, it featured a large fuel tank and engine-driven fuel pump in the loading compartment.
The fuel pump was accessed by opening a door on the side of the tank.
It had a crew of two, a highly maneuverable six-wheel drive system, and a six-cylinder, four-stroke engine.
Late in the war, when Allied counterattacks secured airfields near the front lines, fuel trucks were used for efficient refueling.
