Description

[A revolutionary high-speed 4WD vehicle that changed the times]

The Audi Quattro was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1980, completely changing the image of conventional 4WD vehicles as heavy, powerful off-road vehicles.

While the body style was basically the same as the Audi Coupe, it was equipped with blister-type over fenders and spoilers on the front and rear to assert its high performance.

It exuded a powerful presence that had not been seen in Audi vehicles up until then. And what attracted attention was the full-time 4WD system equipped with a center differential in addition to the front and rear differential gears, which not only created smooth driving on the road, but also pursued high-speed performance, cornering speed, and high stability.

The engine was a 2144cc in-line 5-cylinder with an intercooler, generating 200 horsepower.

The front and rear suspensions were MacPherson strut type, the brakes were 4-wheel discs, and the front wheels were ventilated.

The Audi Quattro also competed in the World Rally Championship, recording numerous victories and accelerating the shift to 4WD rally machines.

Quattro, which means four in Italian, is now used as a general term for Audi's four-wheel drive system.
