[An ambitious high-powered 4WD sports car]
Based on the concept car "HSX" that Mitsubishi exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989, the GTO was released in October of the following year.
The GTO was born with the aim of creating a "super 4WD sports car" that combines high-speed driving performance and safety and achieves high-quality driving under all driving conditions.
Its styling is low and wide, glamorous and dynamic.
The top grade model has a 3-liter V6 DOHC twin-turbo engine with 280 horsepower mounted horizontally at the front and drives all four wheels with a full-time 4WD system with a center differential.
The four-wheel independent suspension with an electronic control system transmits high power to the road without waste.
In addition to ABS and 4WS (four-wheel steering), it was equipped with many cutting-edge mechanisms at the time, such as active aero that moves the front and rear spoilers according to the vehicle speed, and an active exhaust system that can adjust the volume of the exhaust sound.
The GTO, an ambitious model that presented a new form of sports car, became the forerunner of Mitsubishi's high-performance 4WD sports cars that followed.
