Toyota has been actively participating in the World Rally Championship since the 1970s, winning many races.

The car that Toyota introduced in 1992 was the Celica GT-Four (ST185).

The car was equipped with a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo engine that produced 299 horsepower in the front of the body with its taut curved surface structure, and was a 4WD system equipped with a hydraulically controlled center differential in addition to front and rear limited slip differentials.

The suspension was the same as the production car, with MacPherson strut 4-wheel drive, but the weight was reduced by using aluminum for the strut case and strut upper, and titanium for the stabilizer.

The following year, 1993, the oil manufacturer Castrol became the main sponsor, and the color scheme was completely changed.
