Description
[The KPGC10 model, an indispensable part of the GT-R legend]
The fourth-generation Nissan Skyline debuted in 1968.
The Skyline GT-R was added to its lineup in February 1969.
This four-door sedan, born with the aim of conquering touring car races of the time, was equipped with a 2-liter inline 6-cylinder DOHC 4-valve engine called the S20, and came standard with parts that were straight out of 1970s racing specifications, such as triple carburetors and a stainless steel exhaust manifold, producing 160 horsepower.
The simple interior, which was also designed with racing in mind, is noteworthy. The GT-R underwent a minor change in October 1970, changing the body shape to a two-door hardtop and shortening the wheelbase to improve handling. Furthermore, overfenders were added to the "surfing line," a press line on the rear fender that serves as a design accent, to enhance its aggressive look.
Designed with racing in mind from its initial announcement, the GT-R dominated touring car races from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, achieving a total of 50 victories.
It remains a beloved car and an indispensable part of Japanese motorsport history.
